SAT-10 scores released for Guam students

Students in the continental U.S. are not the only ones who take the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT-10), as those who attend classes in the unincorporated U.S. territory of Guam also sit for the exam. The Guam Department of Education recently released the results from the 2011-2012 SAT-10 testing round and, according to the Pacific Daily News, many schools saw small signs of improvement.

Overall, Guam public school students continued to score below the national average. However, this latest round of results did provide a few glimmers of hope. For example, seventh-graders from Benavente Middle School saw a jump in language arts scores, from 618 to 629, as well as math results, which increased from 622 to 646. Dexter Fullo, Benavente's principal, cites a strategic plan meant to improve curriculum and instruction as the reason behind the improved scores.

Governor Eddie Calvo is pleased with students' SAT-10 scores as well and believes the improvements are cause for celebration. In addition, Calvo's education liaison Vince Leon Guerrero said some schools that were in the lower performing bracket have increased their scores.

When teachers have their students take the multiple choice SAT-10, they have the ability to gauge pupils' grasp on academic subjects like language, reading, mathematics, science and social science, according to Pearson Education's website.
