Educators from throughout New Jersey's education sector recently made their way to the Atlantic City Convention Center to attend the New Jersey Education Association Convention. The event, which ran from Nov. 7-8, featured knowledgeable speakers, informative sessions and opportunities for professional and career development, according to the convention's website.
Overall, more than 30,000 educators attended the event, which provided a glimpse at how important changes in the nation's education sector are to teachers, NJ Spotlight reported. With New Jersey currently in the process of implementing the Common Core State Standards, this is clearly a time of great change for the Garden State.
This year, the Convention is said to have attracted its highest turnout in at least a decade. In fact, so many people were in attendance that sessions were forced to turn away crowds due to a lack of space. Panels focused on the CCSS and teacher evaluations were among the most popular sessions at the event. Overall, there were three panels dedicated to the Common Core, featuring topics such as their implementation and the CCSS-aligned assessments students will need to take beginning in the 2014-2015 academic year.
