If teachers have never heard of or visited DonorsChoose.org before, they may be missing out on a valuable resource that could help make the implementation of the Common Core State Standards go a lot smoother.
Teachers who feel their classroom lacks essential resources can visit the website and make a request for anything from pencils to microscopes. Then, visitors who feel compelled to make a monetary donation can help projects reach their funding goal, and DonorsChoose ships the desired materials.
At Westside Elementary School in Louisiana, students in teacher Charmaine Bahlawan's kindergarten class are among the latest to benefit from DonorsChoose.org. Thanks to funding from the Chevron Corporation, the pupils can now use a series of materials aligned with the CCSS, The Daily Advertiser reported.
"Words cannot describe how I'm feeling today," Bahlawan told the news source. "They are smart students, they are ready to learn and I want to get them the materials they need so that they can be the best."
A Microsoft Surface tablet, flash cards, phonetic awareness kits and games were among the materials now possessed by Westside Elementary School as a result of Chevron's donation.
