Education officials waiting on budgets for 2011 fiscal year

Schools may not receive the funding they need

While the government has been pushing heavily for education reform in order to ensure that American students are able to properly prepare for their future, schools may not be able to get the funding they need in order to improve the curriculum.

Congress is planning on completing its spending plan for the fiscal year of 2011, which includes funding for the U.S. Department of Education, according to Education Week. As Congress has until December 18 to complete their spending plan, the source reports that education insiders are hoping that government officials use the extra time to decide on an agreement for a larger budget for the country’s school system.

However, in order to continue pushing for education reform, President Barack Obama announced earlier this year that he was planning on requesting $1.35 billion for the fiscal 2011 budget to go toward his Race to the Top initiative, which gives extra education funding to states that demonstrate commitment to reforming their education system.
