It has been about five years since students attending classes at North Carolina's Mooresville Graded School District first started using laptops to enhance their instruction, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported. Between then and now, Mooresville pupils have benefited greatly from these technological classroom resources.
This is good news, considering the fact that District officials had originally prepared for a slight dip in student performance, thinking it would take them some time to become familiar with the laptops and new digital curricula, according to Education Week.
The District's technological progress was discussed at the ninth annual Education Network Forum, titled "The 21st Century Classroom." This event, which was sponsored by North Carolina's Knox County Council PTA, attracted more than 100 school officials, advocates and community leaders.
In addition to hearing about the ways in which technology can improve classroom instruction, those in attendance also covered the Common Core State Standards, which are designed to promote the use of technology. After all, students will need to be comfortable with computers, the internet and other modern tools in college and the workforce.
