Ashe County Schools students, as well as their parents and teachers, have reason to celebrate, as they performed well under the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The Jefferson Post reported that four schools within the Ashe County district recently achieved "Distinction" status on the North Carolina School Report Card for the 2011-2012 academic year, which followed the implementation of the CCSS.
With schools across the country currently transitioning to the new Standards, some assume that students may struggle for a bit as they adapt to the much more rigorous CCSS. However, Ashe County pupils revealed that they are capable of moving from one set of standards to another and still do well.
"We’re really proud of our students, teachers and parents for the hard work they did over the last year," Travis Reeves, the district's superintendent, told the news source. "With the transition from one curriculum to the new Common Core State Standards, I am especially proud that our students and teachers, who with the help of parents, helped us to continue to improve."
