Once the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are fully implemented, educators in classrooms across the country will be responsible for making sure students are taught according to them. However, if parents plan to help their children with their homework or simply talk about the school day with them, it helps for them to understand the CCSS.
For this reason, many school districts are taking steps toward educating parents about the Common Core. Connecticut's Suffield Public Schools, for example, recently devoted a night to teaching parents about the Standards, the area's Patch website reported. A large number of parents came out for the informative session, which was led by administrators and allowed parents to learn how the CCSS will impact the quality of their children's instruction.
Meanwhile, Nevada's Humboldt County School District recently issued a press release announcing a special presentation that will be held on November 28. District officials believe that it is crucial for parents to understand the CCSS, as they will play an essential role in the Common Core's success.
"We just won't be able to do it without that support and help," said Dave Jensen, the District's superintendent. "This is such an immense undertaking for our district, for our teachers and especially our students; we know that engaging our parents is the key to bringing it all together."
