Maryland school embraces the CCSS and interactive whiteboards

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are designed to prepare K-12 students for college and the workforce. As technology plays such an important role in the daily lives of degree seekers and professionals, it should come as no surprise to see schools that have embraced the CCSS finding new ways to use technology in their classrooms.

Interactive whiteboards are just one piece of technology many educators have implemented in preparation of the CCSS.

According to the Audio Visual News Network, whiteboards are among the top 10 must-have classroom technologies for the new school year. These devices allow teachers to share content from the internet and their computers with their entire class. In addition, students have the ability to interact with the whiteboard as it offers touch-screen features.

At Maryland's Great Seneca Creek Elementary School, the adoption of this and other technological devices will help students meet the goals established by the Common Core, The Washington Post reported.

Just as students entering school following the 2013-2014 academic year will only know instruction that adheres to the CCSS, they will also never see how whiteboards differ from chalkboards. Second-grader Micah Chin is one student who has never even used a chalkboard, as he has never been in a classroom that featured one.
