The nation's business leaders may no longer be in school, but the Common Core State Standards will still affect them. A main focus of the CCSS is preparing K-12 students for the challenges that await them in the workforce. For this reason, business leaders who care about improving the quality of U.S. workers may support the Standards.
Currently, many companies do just that. Accenture, The Boeing Company, Dell, Inc., IBM, Microsoft, State Farm Insurance and Verizon Communications, Inc. are among the businesses that support the CCSS, according to the Common Core's website.
Come Sept. 18, the Business Roundtable, an association of chief executive officers, will gather for its third quarter meeting, Politico reported. During this session, more than 40 CEOs will be joined by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, as well as former governors Jeb Bush and Mitch Daniels. Together, they will discuss the CCSS and how the business community can work with policymakers to align education with the demands of today's workforce.
According to the news source, President Barack Obama is also expected to make an appearance at the Business Roundtable's meeting.
