Under the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), Arizona educators will be expected to help their students understand how the skills they develop can be applied to real world situations, according to the Arizona Department of Education. In addition, teachers must help their pupils meet grade-level goals and ensure they are ready for college or the workforce.
As more will be expected of educators following the full implementation of the rigorous CCSS, it is only natural to see school districts find new ways of making sure their teachers are the right people for the job. Next fall, instructors at all school districts within the Tucson, Ariz., area will face stricter evaluations, the Arizona Daily Star reported.
The new evaluations, which are currently being developed by officials from school districts and charter schools, will assess educators based on their students' test scores, as well as surveys and classroom observations. While teachers' performance has always been judged, the revised evaluations will place a greater focus on how well students appear to be doing and how this reflects on their instructors.
School districts have until the next academic year to introduce the new evaluations, but the news source reports that some institutions are already using them.
