Arizona launches online Common Core resource

While school districts across Arizona have been transitioning to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for some time now, there are still many residents throughout the state who do not fully understand what the CCSS are or what they will mean for children's education. To rectify this problem, the Arizona Department of Education recently announced the launch of a new website, ArizonaCommonCore.org.

This online resource is not just designed for families who will be directly affected by the CCSS, but educators, business leaders and anyone else who is curious to learn more about the new Standards.

When individuals visit the website, they will find sections designed for teachers, administrators, families, students, and business and community leaders. Each section provides information that can be used to enhance individuals' understanding of the CCSS, as well as students' success under the Standards. For instance, business and community leaders are told that they can educate their staff about the Common Core.

The website also features information on the state's implementation timeline, Race to the Top and a Communications Tool Kit that can be used to educate others about the CCSS.

In addition to the website, which people can visit at any time, the Arizona Public Engagement Task Force, an independently formed collaborative comprised of more than 30 partner organizations, is ready to educate state residents about the Common Core.

"It is critical that we communicate with parents, families and communities about the implementation of the Common Core State Standards," said Pearl Chang Esau, the Task Force's leader. "By engaging and educating parents and the public, it is the Task Force's goal that they will be able to better support the success of every student."
