The goal of parents is not to encourage their children to learn just enough to move to the next grade. The major mission is to support teachers in furthering kids' education so students can eventually get into postsecondary school and earn a good living. For all of this to happen, students must be well-prepared to graduate high school. As a parent, you can assist your children with these tips:
Improve your children's standardized testing scores
As the Common Core and other standardized tests evolve, many colleges and universities will accept these test scores in lieu of entrance exams. Higher grades provide better chances for students to get into their choice schools. You can help your children improve their scores by monitoring their regular homework and grades. Make sure your kids fully understand the topics at hand before moving on to more difficult materials. Also, offer extra assistance such as tutoring if your kids need it.
Encourage your kids to take part in extracurricular activities
Postsecondary education institutions no longer look at only grades. Students must appear well-rounded through their choices of extracurricular activities to have a good shot at acceptance. Sports, student clubs and volunteering all offer options for students to beef up their resumes while learning important skills such as teamwork and collaboration.
Teach tech
As kids move from high school to college, they will likely never again turn in handwritten assignments, as they will use technology for everything from research to writing papers. Ensure your kids know how to navigate the Web to find credible sources and can use programs like Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to write papers and make presentations. This way, they can produce college-level material before they graduate high school.
