While all students are unique, some individuals excel beyond their classmates. In some cases, these talented pupils may not receive the quality of education they need to excel. This is where the Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) can help.
This nonprofit organization exists to assist educators, families and students in a way that will help pupils reach their full potential, according to Duke TIP’s website. There are many ways for the organization to identify gifted and talented youth, such as a review of their Iowa Tests of Basic Skills‘ (ITBS) scores.
Tim Jones, the principal of Georgia’s Marietta Middle School, told Marietta’s Patch website that an exceptional score on the ITBS makes the students eligible to participate in the Duke TIP 7th Grade Talent Search. This is why three students – Eric Finderup, Andrew Levine and Hrithik Saride – were recently recognized by Duke TIP after besting all other participants in a group of 14.
Seventh-graders are not the only students who can receive help from the organization, as there is also a Duke TIP 4th-6th Grade Talent Search.
