Time-saving tips for students

If your children are in high school, they may be overwhelmed with homework, after-school activities and college applications. All of this can add up to some high stress levels and make being productive difficult. You can help your kids succeed by sharing these time-management tips:

Use a daily to-do list
Kids do a lot every day between various Common Core classes, sports practice, extracurricular activities and even part-time jobs. It's no wonder they have a hard time remembering everything they need to accomplish each day. Encouraging your children to make a to-do list is one way to make sure they conquer every task. Having a specific notebook or planner to jot down all homework assignments, projects, tests, games and other activities will keep your children organized. This simple trick can even potentially improve their grades as they will never have an excuse for not turning in an assignment or studying for a test.

Work with a student counselor
If your children are applying to colleges or will be soon, they shouldn't go through this process alone. Have your kids talk to their guidance counselor. This valuable resource can provide advice on what colleges to apply to, how to seek out financial aid and what documents students must send in with their applications. These professionals can offer level-headed assistance during an often busy and stressful time, providing your children with advice and giving you some peace of mind.

Bring your homework everywhere
Many people lose an hour or so a day to "dead" time, or the moments between activities. When your kids are waiting for football practice to begin or on the bus to a dance meet, they may want to do some homework so they don't end up completing it late at night when they're exhausted. Have your kids bring their schoolwork with them so they can work on it during any free time.

Prioritizing is key
High school is not all about homework. Kids should spend time with friends, go to the movies and pursue interests outside of school. With that being said, in order to do all these fun things as well as graduate with good grades, your children must learn how to prioritize. This means sometimes saying "no" to invites for parties or hangout sessions.
