This spring, many parents and teachers will root for students as they tackle the California Standards Tests, which are part of the California STAR Testing Program. While not every second- through eleventh-grader will receive a perfect score on the Tests, it is not impossible.
After all, John Isaiah Norwood managed to do just that when he was in the second grade at John Sinnott Elementary School in Milpitas, The Post Newspaper Group reported. When faced with the Tests for the first time, John received a perfect score of 1200 by acing the assessments’ English language arts and mathematics sections.
John, who is now 8 years old and in the third grade, serves as an example to fellow students and their parents that it is possible to excel on the Tests. Chris Norwood, John’s father, certainly believes this to be true.
“With the 2013 STAR test exams right around the corner, it is important that I encourage parents and children to believe that academic excellence is possible and the achievement gap can be erased,” Norwood told the news source.
For students, one key to success on the Tests may be knowing what types of questions await them. According to the California Department of Education, the Tests assess students’ knowledge of reading, writing, science, history and mathematics.
